A few things worth mentioning that we have been doing in the past few days are:

  • Building Structured Blogging support in GoingOn: Structured Blogging is a way to get more information on the web in a way that’s more usable. You can enter information in this form and it’ll get published on your blog like a normal entry, but it will also be published in a machine-readable format so that other services can read and understand it. So - apart from a blog entry- you can also publish events, reviews, audio and videos and a fw other micro-contents. So far - there are Structured Blogging plugins developed for WordPress and MovableType publishing systems. We are doing a custom module for our GoingOn code base which will support Structured Blogging.

And, if you didn’t know, BroadbandMechanics and GoingOn both are sponsors for the Structured Blogging initiative and we are working very closely with both the companies.

  • Integrating Newsgator RSS Aggregation services: We are also integrating Newsgator RSS Aggregation services in one of our product and are also evaluating using it for other product of ours. So far - I have been impressed with their product, services and support - but I will wait to give another feedback after we are done with the integration.
  • Evaluating Ruby on Rails: I keep hearing and reading so much about this web framework that I thought that it’s time to have that expertise in our technical team. I never got a chance to do the research myself - so I gave Vipul this idea of researching and letting everybody know about this. He delivered a primitive document about the same just yesterday - something that impressed me is that it follows MVC pattern of programming. But I still need to see a few applications created in-house before I can feel comfortable enough to use that (or propose to our clients) in our external products. But knowing our team - I know that it won’t be long before I see a cool internal application using the framework.

May be we will start showcasing our internal products on our company website soon. But there will a bit of work involved to bring those in that condition.
