Rumors are that Microsoft has decided the official name of Longhorn as ‘Windows Vista’. Now, having worked at Microsoft, I know that there is no point in believing unless I see an official word from Microsoft.
But what kind of name is this - Windows Vista. Not a name that really excites me!

vista has the following meaning
1. A distant view or prospect
2. the visual percept of a region
it is an Italian word, from feminine past participle of vedere, which means “to see”, from Latin.
In short , it means something visual. From what I conclude , from reading your blogs and whatever I have heard about Microsoft windows, codenamed Longhorn it is gonna be a rich visual treat more than anything else. I suppose it uses rich UI’s like Laszlo and Avalon , and using it is gonna be a lot of fun, so maybe that’s why they have named it Vista.
There always a reason or some story behind all the codenames and official names.
Keep us updated on the name.

It’s official - the name is going to be ‘Windows Vista’. Kirti, I wasn’t talking about the meaning - I am sure they have a reason and will brand it properly. It’s just that it didn’t ’sound’ very exciting to me
