Based on my limited experience running a company from the last 6 months, the biggest challenge that we have faced is the availability of great talent. In fact, it won’t be an exaggeration if I say that the same holds for any software company. We have been very lucky so far to be able to attract good people and the team, overall, have performed above expectations. But the job is becoming tougher as we are scaling up and need more than a few people in a short time.
And, on the top of that, here are the 2 announcements that is going to make finding people even more difficult:
India wants H1-B tripled
IBM to hire 14000 people in India
India really has a lot of talent - lot of people who can just do the work but if you need people who can go above and beyond, this is a skill which is rather rare!

I don’t share your view. I think many people have the capacity to perform “above and beyond”, all the need is an opportunity, right training and some guidance. How can you expect a fresher , who has no industry experience whatsoever and knows zilch about the standards in the industry to immediately start performing to the expectation levels of a client. It’s only in the IIT’s that the students work on good projects as their is a lot of Interaction with the Industry and most of the professors are involved in research.
I feel all that is required is decent knowledge of the your field and a spark to learn and perform, as the old saying goes ” When the going gets tough , the tough get going”.

i wont worry abt the news that IBM is hiring,,almost all companies say that they r hiring and almost all overstate the numbers,
I think the way is to let good ppl find good talent and train them to be goood,,personally i have found that freshers/ppl with less experience work wonderfully with correct leadership.

Kirti, I don’t think that going to IIT or any other institute makes a difference in what I am saying! I am not even talking about the skill-set, I am talking about the drive, the enthu, the energy and the will to do things other than the assigned work. A lot of people will just want to do the work that is assigned to them and not take a lot of initiative themselves. This is the skill that differentiates a good performer from a great performer.
About meeting the expectation level of a client- I am not concerned about that. There is a lot more to it - right?

Again with the right kind of Leadership you can get what you want. Also I think what you are talking about is basically the Indian mindset, we like to finish the job that we get as soon as possible, that’s why the Indian cricket team is not the best in the world, most of the players just do what the coach says and work in the training sessions, this can be applied to other areas as well.

I am a big believer & fan of the tech startups & that kind of ecosystems. You folks seem to have a good startup and are doing very impresssive work, so I thought why not blog about it and gain you some viral connections
Btw If some one gets hired by you after having come through some links from my blog do I get any referral benefits
You figured the trackback to your url way sooner than I expected

Of course, just make sure that they do mention to us (in the email or something) this fact. I am more than looking forward to give away the referral benefits - anything to get good people on board.
